ISPs going harder on blocks lately? Need workarounds!

2026-02-15
Hey everyone, anyone else noticed their internet service provider (ISP) blocking way more sites this month? I've been trying to get onto a few different places I usually visit no worries, and suddenly I'm getting 'site cannot be reached' or some other generic error. It's not just one site, it's a few, and it seems to be happening more often. I'm with Telstra, but a mate on Optus said he's having similar dramas too. Is it just me, or are they really cracking down hard? What's the go, any decent workarounds? Reckon I need a good VPN, but no idea where to start.

Can confirm, it's a bloody pain in the arse. Paying good money for internet and then they just block stuff willy-nilly. I caved and got a decent paid VPN last month and it's been mostly smooth sailing since, but it's an extra cost I shouldn't have to deal with. Seriously annoying.

I've noticed it too, especially when I travel interstate. Feels like the blocks are inconsistent sometimes. But yeah, def more frequent. Any idea *why* this is suddenly ramping up? Is it new gov rules, or are the ISPs just bein' dicks because they can? Just curious what the reason is behind it all.

Cheers for all the replies everyone! Glad to know I'm not going mad, and it's not just me. Sounds like a good paid VPN is the way to go then. Still a bit miffed about having to pay extra just to access the internet I already pay for, but gotta do what ya gotta do I s'pose. Thanks for the tips!
